Join us for our Fall Season!
All performances this Fall are free and will take place in the Mildred Dunnock Theatre,
Meyerhoff Arts Building. Seating is limited and attendance is on a first-come, first-served basis. Arrive early
to be assured of admittance.
Join the students of the French Theatre course, FR/THE 272Y, as they perform our Fall course project, an adaptation of the charming and alarming tale, La Chèvre de M. Seguin (Mr. Seguin’s Goat). Performed in French with English supertitles, our production tells the story of a young goat’s quest for independence as she figures out which authority figures she might trust (or not), and chooses between risk and boredom. Inspired by our reading of the nineteenth-century story (which is in the style of a folk tale) and hearing it told by a Provençal storyteller during class members’ trip to France on our Intensive Course Abroad, our performance of the tale is further inspired by a recent adaptation, Ravie, by the playwright Sandrine Roche. The students and faculty from the course abroad have been joined by additional members of the Goucher community, and our performance not only draws on participants’ French-language skills but also includes theatrical ingredients such as a speaking chorus consisting of the ghosts of goats from the past, and shadow puppetry.
Friday, October 6 at 5 p.m.
Students in the Devised Theatre Production class will showcase an hour of original work inspired by found text, chance, improvisation, and Viewpoints training. Join them in a provocative evening of experimental theatre.
